Andhra Pradesh: Talks on for nuke power unit

Action for land acquisition for the Kovvada project has been initiated.

Vijayawada: The Minister of State (MoS) of PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh, in reply to a question by YSRC MP Mr V. Vijayasai Reddy in the Rajya Sabha, said on Thursday, though the government is aware of the fact that M/s Westinghouse (WEC) filed a bankruptcy petition, discussions with it are still on to arrive at a viable project proposal for setting up nuclear power reactors at Kovvada in Andhra Pradesh.

The MoS of the Prime Minister’s Office stated that the discussions being held with WEC at present are in progress to arrive at a viable project proposal for setting up nuclear power reactors at Kovvada in Andhra Pradesh. The project will be set up on emergence of a viable project proposal and will be executed in accordance with the administrative approval and financial sanction by the Government, Minister stated.

Action for land acquisition for the Kovvada project has been initiated. The Government of Andhra Pradesh has accorded permission for advance possession of 1473.16 acres of Government land to Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL). Of this, about 679 acres of vacant and encumbrance-free Government land has been handed over to NPCIL as of November 2017. Action for taking possession of the balance land has also been initiated, according to Dr Jitender Singh that should be over in time.
