Probe panel seeks more time in Manjeri ragging
Malappuram: The three-member committee, which probes the alleged ragging incident in Government Medical College at Manjeri has sought two more days to complete the investigation into the 43 complaints of ragging on the campus. Earlier the report of the committee headed by Dr. P.J. Babu was expected to submit before the meeting of the Anti-Ragging Committee at the College on Wednesday. “The investigation team has been given time to complete the probe as per their request. Further decision and actions can only be taken based on the report,” said Dr Mohanan K., the principal of the Medical College. The suspension of the 21 students will continue until probe ends, he said.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the all the 43 junior students who complained about the ragging by seniors in hostels have approached the authorities seeking withdrawal of their complaint. But Dr. Mohanan said that action will only be taken as per the probe report.
21 students of second and third year MBBS course were suspended from the college on Monday, and were directed to stay away from the hostel and college campus. The action was followed by a slew of complaints by the first year students of harassing the m allegedly by the senior students.
