Kacheguda station to get third lift in new year
Hyderabad: The South Central Railway has begun work on installing another lift at the Kacheguda railway station as it races to meet the norms for A1 status stations. The station has three escalators for general passengers serving five platforms. Two lifts are available for the elderly and sick passengers for the first, second and third platforms. The third lift, which will serve the fourth and fifth platforms, will cost about Rs 20 lakh.
Most passenger trains arrive on platforms 4 and 5, and several passengers, the physically challenged and the elderly, feared using the escalator. An SCR officer said the station saw 40,000 passengers a day for the nearly 50 trains of different categories. During summer and festivals, the rush increases one-and-a-half times when the SCR runs special trains, he said.
SCR chief public relations officer M. Umashankar Kumar said work for the construction of the lift had begun and it would be functional by the New Year. “As the station has got the A1-status, we have improved passenger amenities apart from installing LED lighting systems and CCTV cameras,” he said.
