Hyderabad: Income Tax heat on jewellers continues

Hyderabad: Income-tax officials have continued their focus on jewellers in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday and seized a few documents for a further investigation.

An official said that they are conducting only searches and the department was focusing on those jewellers who sold huge amount of gold between November 8 and November 20. “Our teams are conducting searches in Nellore, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Hyderabad,” the official said.

The I-T department has deputed staff from administration wings for the raids and searches. The teams in coordination with other investigation agencies are concentrating on erring bank officials who colluded with stash holders in exchanging demonetised currency.

In another development, CBI held searches and raids on the houses and properties of Chennai income-tax additional commissioner S. Murali Mohan. He is a 1999 batch IRS official.

The CBI has already registered a case against him for having disproportionate assets. The CBI identified assets worth Rs 3.28 crore in Hyderabad and Khammam. The CBI identified property at Serilingampally, Manikonda and Puppal-aguda under IT corridor and in Hayathnagar.

Apart from this, Murali-mohan owns an educational institute in Hydera-bad, commercial lands, agricultural fields and a lodge in Penuballi of Kha-mmam district. The CBI has also registered a case against his wife S. Kala.
