Congress to join DMK in fight for jallikattu
Chennai: The Congress will join hands with the DMK in the January 3 protest demonstration demanding steps for lifting jallikattu ban, indicating the normalisation of ties between the two parties after the visit of Congess vice president Rahul Gandhi to meet DMK chief M. Karunanidhi.
TNCC president S. Thirunavukkarasar told reporters that the Centre was deceiving the people of Tamil Nadu every year by making promises that jallikattu would be held, but they were not fulfilled. He said bull should be removed from the list of wild animals to facilitate the conduct of jallikattu and added that the Congress is ready to hold separate protest demanding the lifting the ban on jallikattu.
Thirunavukkarasar said he would not issue notice to former TNCC president E.V.K.S. Elangovan or initiate any kind of action against him for criticising the state leadership.
He did not want a confrontation with Elangovan, since it is not wrong to criticise anyone in public life. Asserting that he had no vendetta or hatred against Elangovan, the TNCC leader greeted his predecessor on his birthday.
