Conference on national security challenges: Maritime security discussed

The three-day conference on national security challenges concluded in the city on Wednesday.

Vijayawada: The three-day conference on national security challenges concluded in the city on Wednesday. On the third day, the attendees discussed maritime and coastal security, drug trafficking and energy security. JNU faculty Prof. G.V.S. Naidu spoke on the importance of the maritime security in the fast changing global scenario. He said the coastal regions should be guarded and trade interests in South China Sea are crucial for India.

Professor Abdul Nafey from JNU explained how drug trafficking was impacting India. He said India has become a super market for opium. Mr Suresh from KPMG spoke about the importance of energy security and said the renewable energy sources are becoming cheaper by the day. He said that world was going to witness a revolution. Mr Suresh said that keeping in view the latest developments, policymakers should think twice before encouraging nuclear power.

DGP N. Sambasiva Rao has participated in the valedictory function of the conference. He said the deliberations in these conferences raise many questions and prompt one to work towards searching for answers. Mr Rao opined that the police officials should take advantage of these conferences to learn new things and enhance their skill sets.
