CBI raids IRS official's house who is with I-T dept in Hyderabad

He was later transferred to Chennai. Murali Mohan's wife S. Kala has also been named an accused in the CBI FIR.

Hyderabad: The CBI has conducted searches on Indian Revenue Service (IRS) official S. Murali Mohan who works with the Income-Tax department in Rajendranagar and unearthed evidence to show he has Rs 3.28 crore of assets that are disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Mr Murali Mohan, a 1999-batch IRS officer hailing from Khammam district in Telangana state currently functions as additional commissioner of the I-T department in Chennai.

He had worked as assistant commissioner of the I-T department from 2001 to 2006 in Hyderabad and later as deputy commissioner in Hyderabad till 2011. He was later transferred to Chennai. Murali Mohan’s wife S. Kala has also been named an accused in the CBI FIR. Their assets have been calculated from 2002 to 2014.

IRS babu had a lodge in his wife’s name
Mr Murali Mohan's father was a government teacher who retired in 1999. The CBI found that Mr Murali Mohan acquired assets disproportionate to his known sources of income in the name of his wife Ms Srikala and mother Ms Sarojini.

“He has initially acquired plots in the name of his wife Srikala in Hayathnagar in Hyderabad and VM Banjar in Khammam. Later, he constructed palatial buildings in these plots. In Manikonda, he had acquired lands in the name of his mother and built a five-floor building,” alleged CBI.

The CBI has found that Ms Srikala started an educational institution ‘The Hyderabad Academy’ here in 2005. The institution was closed in 2012-13 and its assets were sold for Rs 25.42 lakh.

Murali Mohan had also purchased four plots in Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Nagar in Puppalaguda in Rajendranagar at the cost of Rs 5.07 lakh. He entered into an agreement with Arca constructions for building apartments. A case has been booked under criminal conspiracy and Preve-ntion of Corruption Act.

A lodge and function hall has been constructed in the name of Srikala in VM Banjar in Pennuballi mandal of Khammam district. His properties were also identified in Gopanapally in Serilingampally, Hayat-nagar, Rajendranagar, Adavimallela in Khammam.

Additional commissioner Srirangapuri Murali Mohan, who is facing allegations by the Central Bureau of Investigation, had links in VM Banjar in Penuballi mandal in Khammam district. Murali Mohan had a lodge in VM Banjar and his parents lived in VM Banjar till recently. His father Radhakrishna Murthy, who was teacher, died recently and his ailing wife resides in Hyderabad. Murali Mohan had joined in the Income Tax department in 1999.
