Thanjavur: Serfoji market to be closed from December 14
Thanjavur: With a view to take up reconstruction of Serfoji market which has 100 provision, country medicine and vegetable shops, under smart city scheme, the market will be closed from December 14, according to city corporation officials.'
New marketing complex will be constructed at a cost of 14.54 crore.
Already Kamaraj vegetable market is being shifted to SPCA grounds on Pudukkottai road for reconstruction under Smart city scheme.
Now Serfoji market in Keelavasal will also be closed. Meanwhile, Palraj, president of Serfoji market traders association urged the corporation to give alternate place till new shops are constructed and allotted to them. Nearly 3,000 workers are working in the market and traders have borrowed loans to the tune of Rs 100 crore to do business.

“We should be given an alternate place till the construction is over or accommodated at SPCA ground, where Kamaraj market is to be shifted temporarily” Palraj said.
Under the smart city scheme for Thanjavur town, Sivaganga park, old bus stand, Thiruvaiyaru bus stand are being renovated at present.
