State-level top honours for Ooty Red Cross

The award was instituted by the TN state unit of the Red Cross.

Ooty: The Red Cross in Nilgiris, bagged the state-level top honours, among the Red Cross societies across the state, for over all best performance in the state. The award was instituted by the TN state unit of the Red Cross.

Though Tamil Nadu Governor Mr. Banwarilal Purohit, handed over the award to the Red Cross functionaries recently in Chennai, at a felicitation function here here, Mr. Suresh, the RDO of Ooty formally handed over the award to the Red Cross-Nilgiris.

He said that the Red Cross in Nilgiris was chosen for the first place for over all best performance in the state for the year 2017-18. With this prestigious award in its kitty, he hoped that the Red Cross-Nilgiris will eye for the extra mile to make its presence further more meaningful in the hills.

Speaking on the occasion, Capt. K.R. Mani, chairman of Red Cross-Nilgiris, said that under the inspirational leadership of Ms.J.Innocent Divya, collector of Nilgiris, who is also the ex-officio President of Red Cross in Nilgiris, it has organised varieties of community service programmes, that includes, blood donation camps, multi-specialty health camps, distribution of artificial limbs, greening and environmental programmes, taking part in disaster management and flood relief camps, first aid training programmes, polio and dengue awareness programmes, reaching out to differently-abled persons and mercy homes across the hills even in remote tribal villages.

This made the tribes and residents in remote areas to look Red Cross as their caring partner at the time of need, he said and added that this state award will give encouragement to pursue the community service with extra zeal.
