Chennai: School students donate for relief

On learning the cyclone incident, students readily said they would contribute amount they had saved.

Chennai: It would be rare for students, studying from class 1 to class 8, to have money and spend the same. However, students of a school in Devakottai at Sivagangai district have come forward to extend help to cyclone Gaja-affected people. The middle school is none other than Chairman Manickavasagam Middle school, Devakottai.

According to school staff, they taught them in the importance of saving money. Students began saving money they get from their parents or relatives. On learning the cyclone incident, students readily said they would contribute amount they had saved.

"We collected money and bought rice bags and other relief materials, which were sent to cyclone-affected areas. According to school management, students also expressed their deep concern for affected people."

"After learning that cyclone Gaja battered coastal districts, our students started offering money they saved. Accordingly, we collected Rs 6,000 and received rice bags," said another staffer, Chairman Manickavasagam Middle School, Devakottai.
