BENGALURU: A 24-year-old BSc student committed suicide by hanging at his house as he was barred from appearing for semester exams due to attendance shortage.
The deceased, Shreyas Nandan, was a resident of Jagjivanram Nagar and was pursuing B.Sc at a private college in Jalahalli near Peenya.
He was found hanging at his house by his parents on Sunday morning. In the note he had written 'Daddy mummy sorry'.
Shreyas had written a suicide note stating no one was responsible for his death, as he was facing attendance shortage and was not granted hall ticket for examination.
Police said he also had backlogs in the second and the third semester and was trying hard to cope with his academics.
Preliminary investigation revealed that he had to commute long distance and whenever he was late beyond 10 minutes, the lecturers would not allow him to attend classes. Hence he had lost out on attendance and sought leniency from college authorities.
Shreyas had also approached his classmates for help in dealing with his projects and assignments.
Police further said he had taken a long leave in October as he was unwell, and that too had affected his attendance.
The college management had penalised him '7,500 for his attendance shortage and barred him from appearing for exams.
A dejected Shreyas took the extreme step and based on a complaint filed by his father, the Jagjivanram Nagar police have take up a case of unnatural death and begun investigation.
