Tamil Nadu: Significant rise in foreign tourist arrivals

The national capital topped the key centres with regard to the percentage share of FTAs in India during October accounting for 32.56 %.

Chennai: There has been a significant increase in the number of foreign nationals visiting the country and Chennai accounted to 6.1 per cent of the total 79.96 lakh foreign tourists India had received in October this year.

During September the country had received 71.20 lakh foreign footfalls clocking a growth of 15.5 per cent from January to September. October alone saw foreign tourist arrival of 8.76 lakhs. According to latest tourism statistics of the tourism ministry the nationals from Bangladesh (21.66%) continue to dominate the volume of arrivals.

The national capital topped the key centres with regard to the percentage share of FTAs in India during October accounting for 32.56 %. Also, the foreign exchange earnings (FEEs) through tourism during October this year were Rs 14,354 crore as against Rs 12,100 crore in October 2016 and Rs 10,549 crore in 2015.
