Perumbavoor rape and murder case: Murder of dalit woman: final hearing starts
Kochi: The argument as part of final hearing in the Perumbavoor rape and murder case began on Tuesday at the Ernakulam principal sessions court as the prosecution enlisted the list of evidences against the sole accused Ameerul Islam.
Special public prosecutor N. Unnikrishnan argued that Ameerul Islam had fled to his native place in Assam soon after the murder and went hiding upon learning that the cops were on trail of him. Finally he was held from Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu about a month later.
The prosecution cited the evidences including the four samples collected from the dress of the victim proved "presence" of the accused at the crime scene. The DNA samples collected from the accused's sandals and the weapon used for murder also matched with the victim's DNA.
Also a woman in the victim's neighbourhood, who had seen the murderer fleeing the crime scene, could identify Ameerul during identification parade held on two occasions. A soil test on the accused's sandals, as identified by his roommates, confirmed the presence of soil samples from the victim's house.
The court commenced the final hearing early this month with completion of examining the prosecution witnesses.
