Miyapur Metro Station may not be able to meet November 28 deadline

Several art zones are being created within the station for artists to showcase their talents.

Hyderabad: In the days leading up to the inauguration ceremony of the Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR), Miyapur Metro Station, from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to flag off the inaugural run, is being given a facelift. Work along the 30-km stretch between Miyapur and Nagole has gained pace, but works at the point of inauguration are unlikely to be completed before November 28.

“Work related to the triple pylon will be completed in a day or two. However, works related to the bus-stop, the auto-stand, the food court, and the hawkers’ plaza, will apparently be completed only a week after the inauguration,” says an official from the HMR.

Several art zones are being created within the station for artists to showcase their talents.

Painted trees, colourful tiles, and shrubs and ornamental plants are expected to be in place before the inauguration. Beautification work is likely to be completed within the next couple of days.

Meanwhile, visitors are welcomed by heaps of cement and construction debris at the stations in Balanagar, Moosapet and Miyapur. “Construction at several places will go on for weeks after the inauguration of the 30-km stretch,” says an official.

While Miyapur Metro Station is quite a serene place, away from the chaos of the city, buses and autos are halting in the middle of the road causing traffic congestion.

The existing bus bays at various stations have been filled with bricks and cement from the construction; consequently, buses are halting on the main road instead.

Pavements are being laid at various places, and these are encroaching upon bus stops, especially at Balanagar, ESI Hospital and JNTU College.

Security forces from other parts of the state have been deployed to guard the station round-the-clock. Around 30 Sub-Inspectors and constables are posted at Miyapur Station. Security checkpoints have been set up at the entrance.
