Verdict on Hyderabad blasts put off

The accused were tried under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and other relevant Acts including IPC.

Hyderabad: The NIA special court has deferred its verdict in the 2013 Dilsukhnagar twin blasts case to December 13. Indian Mujahideen’s (IM) top operatives Yasin Bhatkal, Asadullah Akhtar, Zia-ur-Rahman, Tehseen Akhtar and Ajaz Shiekh, against whom charges were framed, were produced in court on Monday.

On November 7, the final arguments concluded in the case before the NIA court at the Cherlapally Central Prison here. The court had then reserved its judgement to November 21. But, the judge posted the verdict to December 13 on Monday.

The accused were tried under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and other relevant Acts including IPC.

NIA said that Riyaz Bhatkal, the main accused, who is absconding now, had arranged for explosive substances and had directed Asadullah Akhtar and Zia-ur-Rahman at Mangalore to receive it. After receiving the explosives and the money sent by Riyaz through hawala and money transfer channels, Asadullah Akhtar and Waqas reached Hyderabad and joined Tahseen Akhtar, who was already hiding there, it said.

The NIA said that Asadullah and Tehseen parked two cycles with Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) packed in a pressure cooker. The NIA found that Zia can assemble an IED and during the probe he demonstrated his ability to make an IED.

At least 17 people were killed and around 130 others were injured in the twin blasts in Dilsukhnagar on February 21, 2013.
