Demonetisation: Supreme Court to hear centre's plea tomorrow
New Delhi: The Centre on Monday informed the Supreme Court that it had filed a petition seeking transfer of all the petitions pending various High Courts challenging demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes and sought a direction to stay all further proceedings in the High Courts.
Attorney-General Mukul Rohatgi mentioned the matter before a bench of Chief Justice T.S. Thakur and Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and prayed for an early hearing of the matter. He said since the SC is examining the issues, it will be better if the High Courts are restrained from passing orders to prevent unne-cessary confusion and chaos. The Bench agr-eed to list the matter for hearing on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the Delhi HC agreed to hear a plea against demonetisation, saying once the currency was invalidated then how could the government direct certain public utilities to accept old notes.
