At last! Elusive Rs 500 note may land in Bengaluru today
Bengaluru: The first signs of vitality are beginning to creep back into the city, nearly two weeks after the demonetization was brought into effect across the country. ATMs are coming back to life too, with banks slowly rising to meet demand and ensuring that there is enough cash to go around. As a result, pressure on bank branches is declining.
DC spoke to people around the city, who agreed that only a handful of ATMs across the city remained closed on Monday, a big leap from the scarcity of last week. “The only trouble is that Rs 100 notes run out very quickly. Customers are being forced to draw the Rs 2000 note, which is very hard to break,” said Mr. Jayaprakash Rao, a resident of JP nagar.
Fill Rs 500 notes: The most-heard demand of the general public concerns the immediate release of new Rs 500 notes. “The 500-denomination is very important in our daily life. I hope the RBI releases the new notes as soon as possible,” said Asha Rani, a resident of Attibele.
Bank officials counter this, saying ATMs have been filled with a sufficient supply of Rs 100 notes. “There is no scarcity anymore. By Wednesday, the situation will revert to what it was before November 8,” said an SBM officer.
