Eflu extends holidays up to October 29, students question timing

The decision to extend holidays, stirred a wave of discontent, students strongly believe it is an attempt to suppress the protests

Hyderabad: The ongoing row between students of the English and Foreign Languages University (Eflu) and its management, over a slew of issues, including a rape attempt on a female student on campus on October 18, took another turn on Sunday with the management extending Dasara-cum-preparation holidays up to October 29.

Meanwhile, students called off their protest late on Sunday as student union members of Eflu campus withdrew their support, leading to a domino effect and students subsequently, relenting.

The decision to extend holidays, however, stirred a wave of discontent among students, who strongly believed it was an attempt to suppress their protests against the management. Many questioned the timing of the holiday extension.

“This decision was clearly taken overnight because they wanted the anger of students to cool down. Why else would it be extended when the festival itself ends on the 24th?” a student said.

The university administration did not comment on the reasons for the holiday extension.
