Land row: Realtor shot at by farmer

The realtor, Rama Murthy, a resident of Lingapura, who sustained bullet injuries, was rushed to a nearby hospital in Jigani

Bengaluru: A farmer shot at a 42-year-old realtor over a land dispute at a village in Anekal taluk on the city’s outskirts on Sunday.

The realtor, Rama Murthy, a resident of Lingapura, who sustained bullet injuries, was rushed to a nearby hospital in Jigani. The accused, Sadappa, managed to escape with the weapons and is still on the run.

According to the police, Murthy and his cousins had gone to Karpuru village to clean a 0.75 acre of land which Murthy had bought from Muttamma, a relative of Sadappa, a year ago. Sadappa had an issue with the sale and demanded that a part of the land belonged to him and Muttamma had sold it against his wish. He had warned Murthy not to come near the land till the dispute was resolved.

But when Murthy went near the land on Sunday, Sadappa, who came to know about it, rushed to the spot and shot him in the leg with his single barrel gun. He immediately ran away from the area. The bullet pierced Murthy’s left knee and his cousin Thimmaraju rushed him to a private hospital on Bannerughatta Road.

Local residents informed the Jigani police and a special team has been formed to nab Sadappa (61), who is a farmer. He had taken the licensed weapon in 2013, his family told the police. It is said that Murthy did not contact Sadappa

when he purchased the land as it is an ancestral property. The police are yet to record the statement of Murthy and further investigations are on.
