Frequent power cuts haunt SD Road area

Due to the increased commercial activity in the area, the transformer is unable to take the load.

Hyderabad: Random and long-duration power cuts near SD Road in Secunderabad are haunting residents, most of them women, as it poses a threat to their security.

Due to the increased commercial activity in the area, the transformer is unable to take the load.

This is causing erratic power supply, frequently resulting in damage to expensive equipment at homes. The power cuts impacts basic services like water supply, residents alleged.

A resident, Ms Chaya, said, “The random power cuts are causing trouble in this small locality. When we complain to the electricity department, our requests go unheard. We even gave a representation asking them to fix the issue. Officials are aware of the issue but there has been no movement for six weeks.”

A new bakery, restaurants and liquor shops have come up along the road in the recent past.

Another resident, Ms Tina, said, “There is a breakdown of equipment like microwave ovens and laptops. Elderly people live here and the long power cuts cause severe inconvenience.”

The transformer’s lifespan has ended and the new one is yet to be set up. In order to provide continuous power supply, a mobile transformer has been set up. A southern discom official said, “We will be replacing the mobile transformer with a new transformer by Monday evening, and all power issues will be resolved.”
