Act against those fomenting communal tension: H D Kumaraswamy
Bengaluru: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy has urged the police to act tough against those who try to create tension in the society in the name of religion.
During his address on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day at KSRP Grounds in Koramangala on Sunday, the Chief Minister also assured the police that his government will look into their long standing demands.
Mr Kumaraswamy said that ADGP Raghavendra Auradkar Committee report about salaries, schemes and policies for the benefit of policemen are under review. “I assure you that our government will implement most of its recommendations soon.”
Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister G Parameshwar, DG & IGP Neelmani N Raju, and other senior police officers were present in the event.
The Chief Minister pointed out that some anti-social elements were trying to create communal rift in the society on religious grounds. “Police should not spare such elements at any cost. Our government will fully support for the police. You (police) should not compromise or nor succumb to influence or pressure while discharging your duty,” he said.
“People have good opinion about the police force. The reputation has to become much better and an atmosphere should be created where people do not fear or hesitate or approach policemen,” the CM said.
From September 1, 2017 till August 31 this year, as many as 414 policemen across the country have laid down their lives while performing duty. In Karnataka, 15 police personnel, including two women, died while on duty.
