Telangana: Caste certificate rules give jolt to BC job-seekers
Hyderabad: Getting a non-creamy layer caste certificate in Telangana has become a Herculean task for applicants appearing for recruitment exams, conducted by the Centre and the state government.
The Centre and state governments follow different set of rules to issue this certificate. Some castes figure in the state backward cast list while they are not considered under the Centre’s OBC list.
The plight of married women candidates is more worse as the Centre wants a caste certificate based on the caste of her parents, while the state government insists on husband’s caste.

In Telangana, backward classes are divided into five categories, namely BC-A, BC-B, BC-C, BC-D and BC-E. Muslims are included in the BC-E category. However, Muslims are not included in Centre’s OBC list.
Various associations have met welfare minister Jogu Ramanna and brought the problems to his notice. Candidates are worried as the deadline for personal interviews are nearing.
BC Welfare Association president R. Krishnaiah said, “The government should issue clear instructions. Those who refuse to follow these directions should be punished. It’s not fair to trouble students who toiled hard to clear the exams.”
