Exotic bull semen in high demand
Hyderabad: Sadar has put focus on the importance the Yadav community attaches to the male buffaloes. With artificial insemination catching up, exotic bulls are in demand, quoting crores of rupees.
Maharaj, Shahenshah, Dhara and Raja are exotic breeds weighing nearly one and a half tonne and are prized between Rs 10 crore and Rs 25 crore. Owners claim that they spend huge money to feed the bulls.
Maharaj, which is raised in Chevella, has a humongous menu which includes 14 litres of milk, 500 gm dates, 16 kg ulvalu (horsegram), 2 kg ragi, 2 kg jowar, 250 gram badam, 500 gm jaggery and 28 kg of green and dry fodder.
According to Dr B. Ekambaram, professor at P.V. Narasimha Rao Veterinary University in Hyderabad, research studies done on 36 bulls showed that on an average 7,000 doses of semen are collected from each bull in a year with a high of 13,000 doses from healthy ones.
