Diwali aftermath: Smog continues to envelope Bengaluru

An official from KSPCB, however, said pollution levels in Bengaluru aren't as alarming as Chennai or Hyderabad.

Bengaluru: The festival of lights might have ended, but the pollution it caused continues to haunt the city. The air is laden with poisonous fumes generated from crackers, leading to smog and reduced visibility during nights and early mornings.

An official from Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), however, said pollution levels in Bengaluru aren’t as alarming as Chennai or Hyderabad.

We are collating data collected from 15 air and noise monitoring centres across the city. While we are yet to come out with a final report, looking at the trend, the pollution could be less this year compared with previous years, he said.

Weather conditions have slowed wind speed and as a result we are seeing high levels of pollutants enveloping the city, he explained.

KSPCB, which was supposed to collate the data on noise and air pollution levels by Saturday, said that it will be releasing the figures on Monday.
