Rudresh killing: Cops now suspect communal angle
BENGALURU: Police teams investigating the murder of RSS activist Rudresh now strongly suspect that there was a communal angle behind the crime. The 35-year-old RSS worker was brutally hacked to death in broad daylight by two motorcycle-borne men on Kamaraja Road on October 16.
Police sources said the investigation into Rudresh’s personal and business dealings have not provided any strong leads. “We have tried all possible angles related to his personal and business disputes, but nothing has emerged out of them. This has made us strongly suspect that there is a communal angle to the case as Rudresh was an RSS worker,” an official said. The police, however, have reportedly got clues that the assailants had local links and they managed to eliminate Rudresh with their help. “It is difficult for outsiders to come and commit a murder without help from local residents. Even in this case, it is established that some 2-3 local residents may have joined hands with outsiders to eliminate Rudresh. We are working on this angle and are trying to find out the local residents who are involved in the offence,” the official added.
With communal angle emerging strong in the case, the police are also gathering details about similar murders in neighbouring states, the police said.
BJP demands NIA probe
A BJP delegation, led by state unit president B.S. Yeddyurappa, met Governor Vajubhai Vala at Raj Bhavan here on Friday and called for a National Investigating Agency (NIA) probe into the murder.
Mr Yeddyurappa along with other leaders Jagadish Shettar, R. Ashok, Aravinda Limbavali and C.T.Ravi requested the Governor to persuade the state government to hand over the investigation to NIA.
The party memorandum stated, “There is a pattern behind killing of RSS workers in recent past and we suspect an unholy nexus of the jihadists and Marxists behind the killings.”
“Going by the pattern of killing, workers of the Popular Front of India (PFI) are involved and they are backed by Marxists. PFI workers have taken cue from the killings of RSS and BJP workers in Kerala by Marxist goondas. Thus NIA probe was necessary to unearth the truth,” BJP stated in the memorandum.
