Ministers go on visit while Assembly in session, says Muslim League MLA

Thiruvananthapuram: Muslim League MLA N.A. Nellikkunnu said in the Assembly on Friday that ministers were attending programmes in their constituencies when the Assembly was in session. This was a violation of the protocol, he said during zero hour. Mr Nellikkunnu pointed out that he had handed over a letter to Speaker P. Sreeramakrishnan who promised to look into the matter.

However, Opposition Leader Ramesh Chennithala intervened and said such complaints had been raised in the past also. Mr Anvar Sadath, Congress MLA from Aluva, had made a similar complaint earlier. However, no ruling was given by the Speaker till date, Mr Chennithala pointed out.

The Speaker offered to give a ruling after studying the matter. Mr Chennithala asked him to give the ruling on Monday itself.

Corruption website: Minister K.T. Jaleel said that a new website will be started on November 1 to help the public register complaints on corruption in institutions under the local administration department. The site will have provisions for posting evidence, including videos of officials demanding bribes. Such officials will be suspended immediately if allegations were raised against them. The inquiry will start only after their suspension, he added.

Minimum wages: Labour Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan said the government was in the process of bringing in a comprehensive Bill for fixing the wages and service conditions of teaching and non-teaching staff in unaided education institutions. The Bill will cover both unaided schools and colleges, he said.
