ACB court verdict in AP-CID's plea for Naidu's custody likely today

Vijayawada: The ACB special court is likely to deliver on Friday its verdict on the AP-CID’s plea for five days’ custody of Telugu Desam chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu, now in judicial remand at the Central Prison in Rajahmundry.

The court was expected to deliver its verdict on Thursday, as the hearings on behalf of both AP-CID and Naidu were completed on Wednesday itself. However, the court said that the delivery of the verdict had been deferred to Friday as a petition seeking the quashing of the FIR booked against Naidu by the AP-CID was pending in the High Court.

The court said that it would take an appropriate decision based on the HC order.

Earlier, additional advocate general Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy argued that they had arrested Naidu with all evidence and sought his CID custody for further probe to expose the conspiracy angle. He argued that they were having the information pertaining to the money trail in the scam. If Naidu was given to AP-CID custody, this would help it to probe the case further, he said.

Similarly, Naidu’s counsel and Supreme Court senior advocate Siddartha Luthra argued that no evidence was found against Naidu vis-à-vis the scam. He submitted that there were procedural deviations in the arrest. There was no need for the AP-CID custody of Naidu and his arrest was politically motivated, counsel argued.
