Telangana high court takes up pil on lack of kids panels

Dr. Sunitha Krishnan, general secretary of Prajwala, an NGO, filed the petition on behalf of the organisation.

Hyderabad: A PIL has been filed before the Telangana High Court against not constituting Child Welfare Committees in all the 23 new districts of Telangana and alleging that the state has been illegally extending the term of office of the existing Child Welfare Committees (CWCs) without forming new committees.

Dr. Sunitha Krishnan, general secretary of Prajwala, an NGO, filed the petition on behalf of the organisation, charging that the state was not following the mandate of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015 thereby not providing all the needs and facilities to minor children, who are being misused and abused by various strata of society.

She submitted that due to the non-constitution of CWCs in the new districts, the existing members of 10 CWCs were given additional charge of the 23 districts. As a result, overburdened CWCs were unable to complete Social Investiga-tion reports for the final disposal of the cases.
