AP: 6 washed away as flash floods hit Guntur, railway stations submerged

Rainwater inundated the railway tracks which led to stoppage of trains at Palanadu, Falaknuma and other railway stations.

Guntur: Six people were washed away and one person climbed a palm tree during flash floods which badly hit Palnadu region of Guntur district on Thursday.

Narasaraopeta, Sattenapalli and adjacent areas were marooned due to breaching of local streams. Two buses of a private travels company were stuck in the floodwater near Narasaraopeta and locals rescued the bus commuters. Transportation was cut to Guntur from Chilakaluripeta, Narasaraopeta, Macharla and other areas due to overflowing of floodwaters on to the roads.

The Amaravati express halted at Nadikudi, Macharla-Bhimavaram passenger stopped at Anupalem near Piduguralla, Palnadu express at Reddygudem-Dhulipalla of Sattenapalli Mandal, Krishna express at Miryalaguda, and Falaknuma express at Bellamokonda due to inundation of railway tracks.

Three people were washed away in the floodwater at Brahmanapalli and also near Ameensahebpalem.

The road connectivity to the district headquarters Guntur from most of the areas of the Palnadu was cut, and transportation was halted at Prattipadu due to breaching of local streams.

Guntur district collector Kantilal Dande said that NDRF plunged into action and had asked the government to send a helicopter to rescue the person stranded on the palm tree. He said that substitute arrangements were made for the stranded train passengers.
