Hyderabad: Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao on Wednesday took all 33 district collectors of the state for a field visit to demonstrate the forest revival programme being implemented in his constituency of Gajwel.

While holding a review after the field visit, Mr  Rao asked the district collectors to prepare a plan for the revival of the forests in their respective districts.

He said that social forestry helped to reduce temperatures in the residential areas, adding that forest development would bring in a change in the atmosphere and help bring in more rains and enable biodiversity.

He was personally dem-onstrating to the collectors on the forest revival programme being implemented at Singayapalli, Nentur, and Komati Banda under the Gajwel Assembly segment.

He told the collectors that at the time of Telangana formation, the entire forest area around the above three villages was almost like a desert and with a view to revive the forestlands, a comprehensive plan was prepared and implemented.

Stating that the revival works begun three years ago were showing results now, he explained that the entire area of around 1,200 acres had become a lush green forest and as many as 27 varieties of fruit-bearing trees were being grown in the forest area, and had become like “monkey food courts”.

He asked the collectors to take this success story as an inspiration and prepare plans for revival of forests in their respective districts.

Principal Chief Conser-vator of Forests R. Shobha and additional PCCF Mr R.M. Dobrial explained to the collectors  that using the rootstock in the forests, trees were grown in a natural way and deep trenches were dug around the forest area for better protection.

They said that this would also prevent animals from going out of the forest area and coming inside the forests.
