Chennamaneni Ramesh withdraws his petition on citizenship

The MLA withdrew his petition as the division bench was not inclined to interfere with the single judge order.

Hyderabad: TRS MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh virtually shot himself in the foot by challenging before a division bench of the Telangana High Court, an order earlier passed by a single judge which had rolled back the issue of his Indian citizenship for a review to the Union Home Ministry.

In fact, CJ Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan asked Mr. Ramesh, “Why have you filed this appeal despite winning the same before a single judge. Are you still aggrieved by your success?” The division bench which included the CJ and Mr Justice Shameem Akhtar was surprised at the appeal petition, as Mr Ramesh had actually got some relief with the single Judge order, which had set aside the decision of the Union ministry against his citizenship.

The MLA withdrew his petition as the division bench was not inclined to interfere with the single judge order.

The ministry had ruled in 2017 that Mr Ramesh was not an Indian citizen. Aggrieved by that, he had approached the HC and the single judge directed the Centre to examine the review.
