Hyderabad: Shias urge for funds to repair ashoorkhanas
Hyderabad: The Shia Companions, a city-based organisation, has urged the government to release funds for the repair and renovation of Ashoorkhanas located in Telangana.
The organisation informed the chief minister that there were about 11,806 Ashoorkhanas in the state and many were in a dilapidated condition. Those located in far flung villages were badly in need of repair.
He said that the government should come forward and give small grants to these religious places to enable them to take up repairs in view of Muharram. Syed Ali Jafry, general secretary of the organisation said that the government should provide money to at least 50 Ashoorkhanas in each of the districts in the state.
“A small amount of Rs 5,000 would be appreciated as it would help in taking up small repairs,” he said. He added that every year the government sanctions grant-in-aid to the Ashoorkhanas.
