Clemency inspires many

Nine-year-old gave Rs 4000 to CM relief fund.

Kalpetta: Clemency Sara, 9, has stolen the limelight by contributing Rs 4,000 to the chief minister’s relief fund. Clemency, a fourth standard student of Assumption LP School, Sulthan Bathery, Wayanad, had saved this amount over the last three years to buy a cycle. But she decided that supporting the flood-affected people was more important.

Inspired by her act, several people have offered to buy her a cycle and she has been receiving phone calls from different parts of the country.

Moved by her gesture, the Assumption school has also announced mobilising a fund for the relief works.

The news of her contribution was first shared with the media by collector Kesavendra Kumar which went viral on the social networking sites.

Mr E.V. George, her father, told DC that he had urged the people, who offered a cycle to her, to contribute the amount to the relief fund. “A cycle is not that essential for a child,” he said and added that there were many children who were struggling to get even sufficient food in relief camps.

Clemency said that she would buy a cycle only next year as it was improper to buy one while many children like her were struggling in relief camps.
