Karnataka: 40 to 120! HD Deve Gowda plans poll-vault

Only after consultation with party workers, would candidates be finalised, he added.

Belagavi: Claiming that the JD(S) will win 120 seats in next year's assembly elections in the state, National President of the party and former PM H.D. Deve Gowda said his party is confident of achieving the target but not capable of spending huge sums of money in the elections. The JD(S) is prepared to sit in the Opposition if it fails to come to power but will never make an alliance with any other political party for the sake of power, he said.

Stating that there was no possibility of early elections in the state, Mr Gowda said the state did not come across any 'untimely storm' that could lead to an early election, adding that the Siddaramaiah government would complete its full term. According to him, elections will be held in March or April next year and a new government will take shape in May. Recalling his contributions to north-Karnataka, he said, he had taken several measures to implement works in the irrigation sector in the region when his government was in power and said, efforts were being made to bring his party to power on ethical grounds. He said he would meet party workers spending one day in every district in Mumbai-Karnataka and would work to rebuild the party base. Poll candidates would not be finalised so soon as the party expects all aspirants to first get involved with people in their respective areas and work for their welfare. Only after consultation with party workers, would candidates be finalised, he added.

Criticising CM Siddaramaiah, he said the CM may feel content for implementing several ‘bhagyas’ but farmers in the state were in a pitiable state with many resorting to ‘atmahatya bhagya' unable to cope with the worsening situation. Asserting that voters would support only genuine leaders, he said, B.S. Yeddyurappa and his BJP would not be able to get votes by visiting the homes of dalits and having food with them.
