Telangana: Will civil engineering be back in demand?

Hyderabad: Civil Engineering is back in the limelight after almost a decade. Rankers, who could not get seats in computer science engineering), IT or electronics and communications engineering have preferred BE Civil.

As a result 83 per cent BE Civil seats are filled, against 72 for mechanical and 64 for electrical engineering. In a leading private college, 41 out of the 42 BE Civil seats under convener quota were filled in the first phase of counseling itself.

Prof. G.V.K. Reddy, the good days were back for civil engineering graduates thanks to a series of recruitments by the government. He said that both the Centre and state governments have initiated huge infrastructure projects, fuelling the demand.

TSPSC chairman Ghanta Chakrapani said that nearly 1500 civil engineers were recruited by the Commission in the last 18 months. Few civil engineers were recruited in the past decade, he said.
