PV Sindhu is true asset for both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh
Vijayawada: Olympics silver medalist P.V. Sindhu can be considered a common asset for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. While she was born in Hyderabad and represents Telangana, her family has an Andhra Pradesh background.
Sindhu’s father P.V. Ramana and mother Vijaya have been national-level volleyball players and are well known in Krishna district as well as in Vijayawada city. They settled in Hyderabad when they got employment in sports quota.
Sindhu’s relatives still live in Krishna, Guntur and West Godavari districts.
The people of AP, including the state government and relatives of Sindhu in Krishna district, want to felicitate the Olympian.
The AP government also plans to open an academy in the state and has already announced big prize moneys for Sindhu and coach Gopichand.
Mr Ramana is a sports officer with the South Central Railway. He had played his last match for Krishna district and had a huge fan following during his heydays.
Sports circles in Vijayawada are thus making grand plans to felicitate Sindhu in the city while the AP government’s plans to felicitate her will be announced soon, accor-ding to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
On Monday, the TS government will hold an official welcome for Sindhu when she arrives at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport from Rio.
