Karnataka: Support pours in, farmers ex-servicemen back protest
BENGALURU: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists continued their protests demanding action against the representatives of Amnesty International India, on Sunday. The protest was supported by various organisations and ex-servicemen.
The ABVP had launched an overnight demonstration on Saturday to protest Friday’s police lathi charge on their activists at the NGO’s office in Indiranagar.
On Sunday various organisations like Kisan Sangha, Utthishta Bharatha and others supported the protest. A youth organisation also held a bike rally supporting the protests, while a few BJP MLAs and corporators also took part in the agitation.
More than 25 retired defence personnel also took part in the protest and demanded immediate arrest of the organisers of Broken Families event, where anti Indian and anti Indian Army slogans were reportedly shouted.
“It is unfortunate that we need to protest demanding the arrest of those who raised voice against the country and its army. Soldiers are protecting the country by making supreme sacrifices. But, some people are raising voice against the soldiers and no action is being taken against them. We will intensify the protests if action is not initiated against the organisers and those who shouted anti national slogans,” said a retired solidier.
Meanwhile, BJP leader and actor Jaggesh, who joined the protests, came down heavily against actress and former Congress MP Ramya, for her statement about Pakistan. “She is doing all this to make the High Command happy and for vote bank politics. If she feels Pakistan is a better place, let her go along with her party leaders and settle there,” he said.
Former DGP Shankar Bidari also took part in the protest and alleged that Amnesty was involved in anti-national activities for the last 25 years. “Before the investigations are complete, the Home Minister is making premature statements,” he added. BJP leader Malavika Avinash and others also took part in the protests.
