Thrissur: Landslip slows down trains
Thrissur: Due to a landslide near the wing wall of Chalakudy Puzhambalam rail bridge on Sunday morning the speed of trains passing through came down considerably.
The landslide occurred at the Muringoor side of the bridge.
Railways workers have started placing sacks filled with M-sand at the areas where the landslide occurred, and the work is going on.
The landslide had occurred near sidewalls of the bridge on both shores during the deluge last year as well.
The wing wall and its supporting wall which are several decades old got damaged as the water level in the Chalakudy River touched the rail bridge during the historic deluge last August.
Later, during the North-East monsoon also the landslide occurred in the area.
Railway engineers had then used granite stones to reinforce the wing walls and had built a supporting ramp to prevent landslides.
But, in heavy and intermittent rains in Thrissur since Thursday night, a landslide occurred in the same area damaging the reinforcement using concrete and granite stones.
