Thrissur: Call for quota for Muslims, Ezhavas

Congress party came up with the OBC department with BJP projecting PM Modi as an \'OBC prime minister\' and making electoral gains.

Thrissur: The executive camp of KPCC's OBC department held at Athirapally here on Sunday came out with a resolution demanding proportionate representation for OBCs like Ezhavas and Muslims in the state assembly and parliament as well as top party posts.

The meeting attended by AICC's OBC department vice-chairman Dr Vinaya Kumar and national coordinator Balendra Vaghela pointed out that they are the largest communities in terms of population in the state.

Congress party came up with the OBC department with BJP projecting Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an 'OBC prime minister' and making electoral gains.

"At present, the Ezhavas who constitute 27 per cent of the population has no MLA from the party after Adoor Prakash got elected to the parliament. Seats with no chance of winning are given to the members of the community while BJP has started strongly influencing the Ezhavas in the state," state chairman of KPCC's OBC department Sumesh Achuthan said.

He also said that the Muslims who form 28 per cent of the state's population played a crucial role in the landslide win of the party in the recent Lok Sabha polls.

"But, there's no party MP from the community," he said.
