BENGALURU: With monsoon becoming active, many BMTC bus passengers are now avoiding occupying the normally much-preferred window seats as they find it difficult to close the shutters properly while it rains or soon after it has stopped raining.
Passengers complain that many buses have leaky roofs and unwieldy windows though the Corporation claims to undertake pre-monsoon checks of its fleet. The BMTC chairman has swung into action and has ordered water tests to be undertaken for every bus leaving its depots.
“I travel from Banashankari to Silk Board every day. It’s tough when it rains, because of faulty windows. We pay for tickets but we don’t get the expected level of service. BMTC must take care of its old buses,” said Jeshta HM, a software professional.
Commuters in most of the routes complain that,by the time they reach home they get completely drenched. In some buses, the windows are jammed so badly that no amount of effort helps in closing them. They say that it is an annual phenomenon and the corporation doesn’t do anything to address the issue.
“I took a BMTC bus from Nagarbhavi to Vijayanagar on Friday when Bengaluru saw heavy rainfall. The bus was an old one, and rainwater was dripping from the roof. Most of the commuters were worried to occupy the seats” says Kiran Kumr, a regular commuter.
