Kozhikode: The Kannur district administration has announced a holiday for schools and other educational institutions on Monday. Heavy rains lashed Wayanad, Kannur and the high ranges of Kozhikode district on Sunday.
The India Meteorological Department had issued a red alert in Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts for Monday. Red alert has also been issued in Kannur and Kasargod districts for Tuesday. Very heavy rain of over 200 mm was expected within 24 hours.
The district administration has warned the fishermen of rough sea and the revenue department has issued special alerts to those living in the landslide-prone areas of high-ranges.
Travel along the ghat section should be avoided between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. besides trips to hill areas and beaches. Flash floods are likely in rivers.
Those living in the landslide -prone areas should take precautions, including keeping emergency kits ready with torch
light, medicines, candles, matchboxes, biscuits and other essential items.
