Kozhikode: Cycle rally heralds Malabar river festival

More than 54 cyclers participated in the rally which concluded at Thusharagiri in the evening.

Kozhikode: A monsoon cycle rally heralding the Malabar River Fest was conducted from Areekkode to Thusharagiri on Sunday. The river festival is scheduled to be begin on July 26.

More than 54 cyclers participated in the rally which concluded at Thusharagiri in the evening.

The river fest is being organised under the joint auspices of Department of Tourism, Adventure Tourism Promotion Council and District Tourism Promotion Council.

With the monsoon enlivening the rivers of high ranges, the kayakers with rafts started moving to the hilly destination which is all set to organize the 8th edition of World Kayaking Championship.

Scheduled to be held for three days from July 26, an elaborate organizing committee with Tiruvambadi MLA George M Thomas as chairman has been formed recently. Tourism minister Kadakampalli Surendran released the logo of the festival at Thusharagiri recently.

Two national-level champions Amith Thappa and Daman Singh, both winners of last year, have been on kayaking training in the gushing waters of Iruvanjippuzha and Chalippuzha.

Last year the presence of participants from Germany, Italy, France, Spain, England, Scotland, Indonesia, New Zealand, Australia, Norway, Nepal, Malaysia, USA and Canada, made it a truly international championship
