Hyderabad: The Wakf Board has dropped plans to initiate action against qazis who solemnise marriages at function halls after 9 pm. The board had said it would not issue marriage booklets to qazis who solemnise marriages after 9 pm. It planned to hold awareness programmes and urge imams of mosques to educate the community. Nothing has happened on this front so far.
A meeting at Haj House was held in this regard with religious scholars and heads of religious schools of thought and the police where it was decided to curb public inconvenience caused by late night weddings. Several persons had welcomed the initiative though others including Deputy CM Mohammed Mahmood Ali had objected to it.
