Surrogacy: Telangana doctors in charge

In a raid conducted by special, it was found that the hospital was paying surrogate mothers far less money compared to others.

Hyderabad: Sai Kiran Infertility Centre, which had come under the scanner for not adhering to the required norms for surrogacy, has been ordered by a division bench to hand over the responsibility of newborn surrogate babies to Telangana medical authorities.

In a raid conducted by special, it was found that the hospital was paying surrogate mothers far less money compared to others.

A senior official at the health department of Telangana says, “The major complaint about the Sai Kiran centre was that the clinic was housing over 40 women in an apartment complex without getting the required permission to run it as a surrogate clinic and also for not following the guidelines of the department.”

Rajeshwar Tiwari, principal secretary of Telangana health department, says, “We have got in touch with our advocates and are awaiting further details which will take one or two days. The babies should not be handed over to the clients but we will ensure that they stay with their mother until the case is resolved.”

Sumit Sekar, the hospital spokesperson, claims that no surrogate mothers or babies have been shifted yet.
