Karnataka: Compensation to kin of Mangaluru police firing victims sought

Mangaluru: A Muslim organization based in Mangaluru has urged the Karnataka government to provide compensation to the families of victims of police firing during the anti CAA protest at Manglauru in 2019.

The demand comes after the government recently granted a compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the families of six victims of incidents of communal hatred.

Dakshina Kannada District Muslim Okkuta President and former Mayor of Mangaluru, K Ashraf, highlighted the cases of Jaleel and Nausheen, who were killed in police firing incident in 2019. He urged the government to extend compensation to their bereaved families as well.

Further highlighting another incident of communal hatred, Ashraf mentioned the killing of Basheer, the owner of a fast-food joint, in 2018 which was in retaliation of murder of Deepak Rao. He urged the state government to consider providing compensation to the family of Basheer,

"I have spoken to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah who has assured to look into the matter," Ashraf told Deccan Chronicle.
