THIRUVANNATHAPURAM: Kannur police has made a sensational arrest, picking up CPM legislator A.N. Shamseer’s ex-driver N.K. Rajesh for his key role in the murder bid on Vadakara independent candidate and former CPM leader C.O.T. Nazeer. The arrest followed the confession by Pottiyan Santhosh, already in custody, about orders given by Rajesh to attack Mr Nazeer.
Rajesh is Pulliyode branch secretary of the party and former office secretary of the party’s Thalassery area committee office. He is also a member of Thalassery town service cooperative bank. The police summoned him to office for questioning, after which he was taken into custody.
The arrest of the chauffeur of a party lawmaker has come at a bad time for the party, embroiled in unsavoury stories involving the elder son of the State secretary of the party. The CPM suffered electoral reverses in the recent LS polls in Malabar, once the party citadel, mainly due to political violence.
The MLA’s ex-driver being nabbed for attempted murder plot is a straw on the camel’s back.
