Yoga practised at parks, metro stations in Chennai
Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi practised yoga at the Forest Research Institute campus in Dehradun, while people practiced yoga at parks, yoga studios and even metro stations across Chennai on the occasion of International Yoga Day today.
In his speech, the PM said “yoga has emerged as the biggest unifying force in the world.” Instead of increasing suffering, yoga heals he said at the event to commemorate the 4th International Yoga Day.
Chennai Metro Rail, in association with Suthaveli Sabhai, a yoga institute, will a conduct a yoga camp starting today and going on until June 24. While the morning session will be held at 6 am in stations including Alandur, Saidapet, Vadapalani and Thirumangalam, the evening session will begin at 6.30 pm in stations including Egmore, AG-DMS, Anna Nagar Tower and Shenoy Nagar.
Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram (KYM) organised a free yoga camp in Mandaveli and Kilpauk, open for all.
Indian Institute of Technology-Madras took it a step further and organised a ‘Yogathon’, where participants were tested on endurance and durability along with a quiz focussing on the benefits of yoga and asanas. A lecture was also delivered by Katyayini Reddy, a yoga instructor on ‘Yoga and the Endocrine System’.
