Hyderabad high court directs for formation of new panchayat

The judge found fault with the officials for not filing the counter even after two months.

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court has directed the panchayat raj commissioner and Hyderabad collector to take steps to form Anthireddyguda gram panchayat in Nandigam mandal of Ranga Reddy in accordance with the Panchayat Raj Act within two months.

Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao was dealing with a petition by Mr Depally Shankaraiah Goud and 23 residents of Anthireddyguda, challenging the action of the panchayat raj commissioner in not taking steps to form the new gram panchayat.

In April, the judge had directed the principal secretary, panchayat raj, and the commissioner to file their counter affidavit within two weeks. The judge found fault with the officials for not filing the counter even after two months.

Government counsel said the Panchayat Raj Act empowers the state legislature to form new gram panchayats and the proposal of the collector had been sent to the legislature.
