Central Wakf Council for amending rules
Hyderabad: A delegation of Central Wakf Council held discussion with the TS Wakf Board with regard to amending the Wakf Properties Lease Rule, 2014.
The meeting decided to invoke certain laws including powers to the Wakf Boards across the country to register non-bailable cases against tenants who default on rent payment.
A few members suggested that the board should avoid middlemen including mutawallis and collect rents directly. They supported a suggestion to not allow tenants to transfer the tenancy to their heirs.
The members felt that the rents being collected by the Wakf Boards were not on par with the market rates. Efforts should be made to increase the rents and generate more revenue, they said.
A few tenants of properties endowed with the TS Wakf Board who were called for their feedback told the meeting that their establishments should be provided amenities at par with commercial establishments.
