New Delhi: The last ditch attempt of former Calcutta High Court Judge C.S. Karnan to escape judicial custody failed as the Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to grant interim bail to him in a contempt of court case even as he was being taken to Kolkata following his arrest in Coimbatore on June 20.
The apex court also refused to suspend Mr. Karnan's six month jail sentence till the matter was considered by seven judge bench.
Mr Karnan's counsel Nedumpara Mathews told a vacation Bench of Justices D.Y. Chandrachud and
Sanjay Kishan Kaul that Mr Karnan has been arrested last night and that he might be granted bail.
